Youth Ministry…about us

At Walnut Street UMC we aim to
fulfill the five purposes of ministry.
Here you will find how our youth
program fulfills these five purposes
for the church...

Worship/ Ministry
“Praise the LORD, O my soul;all my inmost being,
praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my
soul, and forget not all his benefits-who forgives
all your sins and heals all your diseases, who
redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.”
Psalm 103:1-20 NIV

At Walnut Street UMC, we offer many opportunities to be involved in Worship. Youth are encouraged to attend our Praising the Master Gathering (PTM) at 9:30 AM in the Sanctuary. Youth can join their peers in our age appropriate Sunday School classes in their respective youth rooms. Each Sunday evening, our youth join together in a time of praise, study, and fellowship by participating in Bible Studies, games and a time of sharing. Our middle school youth group meets from 6:00 - 7:30 PM while our High School youth meet from 7:00 - 8:30 PM. Both groups come together from 7 - 7:30 to share in each others
joys and concerns.

Discipleship
He has showed you... what is good. And what
does the LORD require of you? To act justly
and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your
God. Micah 6:8

Our youth program offers many different opportunities for Discipleship through out the year. Our most prominent activities include our Sunday morning Sunday school that takes place at 11:00AM Sunday mornings and our youth group meetings that take place each Sunday evening at 6:00 (Middle School) and 7:00 (High School). We also offer each year our Confirmation program that allows young people on sixth grade or older to explore what it is to be a member in the United Methodist Church. The students participate in a variety of Bible lessons, outreach projects and retreats that allow them to understand what it means to be a member in the church. After taking the opportunity to explore Gods call on their lives, each student who feels ready to join the church membership will be welcomed into full membership at the Walnut Street UMC. Throughout the year, we also provide the opportunity to participate in various small groups, short term Bible studies and many fun events.

We also take time out weekly for Bible Study which allows us to dig deeper into God’s word and grow closer to him. Junior High meets on Thursdays at 7:00 PM till 8:00 PM and Senior High meets on Wednesdays from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM.

Fellowship
“And this is his commandment: We must
believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ,
and love one another, just as he commanded us”
1 John 3:23

There are many opportunities for youth to
fellowship during the year. Not only do they join together weekly during our youth group meetings but we provide activities monthly that allow our youth to grow together in Christ’s love. Some of the activities that our youth look forward to participating in includes concerts, retreats, lock ins, movie nights and much much more. Growing together as a body of Christ is an important part of being a Christian and we don’t want our young people to miss out on it! Please see the calendar link for the most up to date information on fellowship activities for your youth

Missions
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority
in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them
to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I am with you always, to the very end of
the age."
Matthew 28: 18 – 20

As we keep that in mind and youth group continuously we will be focusing
on many different mission projects and outreaches during the year. We
will be working on projects on three basic levels:

Locally – We plan to continue the important shoe box ministry during the Christmas season, assist with the Walnut Street UMC’s soup kitchen, and by creating Easter Baskets for those in our very own community who can’t afford to purchase/ make their own.

Nationally – Each year, we will participate in a national mission trip that could take us throughout Ohio or within the surrounding states. Throughout the year, you will hear about this project as we organize fundraisers to support this AWESOME outreach!

Internationally – In order for us to get a feel for the needs of our brothers and sisters on an international level, we will be participating in a “fast” that will allow us to explore and experience how they live on a daily basis with half (if not less) of what we have here in the United States. While participating in this project, we will be raising money as well as awareness to support those needs for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
