The
ACTS 1:8 Challenge
How can I serve beyond the walls of the Church?
Acts
1:8: 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on
you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Active Mission
As followers of Christ, we are to be the “hands and feet”
of Jesus to those around us… in our neighborhoods and town,
our country, and around the world. The call to serve for believers
is specifically to dedicate our lives to mission, anywhere and everywhere.
It is imperative that at Walnut Street UMC, we continue to span
the globe on mission, as well as reach those right in our own backyard.
Choose what is right for you at this stage of your faith journey.
Choose
from 3 levels of mission trips:
Local
Mission (LM)
“You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem”
Jesus reminds us that we are to reach out to those in our own community.
A local mission (LM) project lasts anywhere from
a few hours to a day in length. These are powerful opportunities
to serve right in our own community and great opportunities for
those wanting to get their feet wet in mission. Possibilities include
helping with
Christ’s
Community Kitchen– meal provided once per month–
sit down or delivery
Wee Care Outreach- ministry for young teen moms
CARE Outreach– Food distribution one day
per month in MacArthur, Ohio
Mini-Missions– periodic home repair projects
for Chillicothe community
Lincoln Park Christmas and Easter outreach
Habitat for Humanity– providing housing for
low income families
National
Trek (NT)
“You will be my witnesses…in all Judea and Samaria”
An (NT) is a trip within the United States that
lasts from 2 to 10 days. Examples include
Red
Bird Missions in Kentucky,
New Orleans Mission trips,
Youth Mission Trips
Global
Expedition (GE)
“You will be my witnesses…to the ends of the earth”
Jesus calls us to love others on the other side of the world. A
(GE) is a trip beyond the U.S. that may last from
4 to 20 days. These trips are higher level trips that provide the
opportunity for team members to immerse themselves in another place
and culture. Examples are trips to:
Vietnam
Mexico
Kenya, Africa
